Minister of Finance HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari said the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has strong potential to support projects that enhance connectivity and integration among the Gulf states, while expanding its contribution to development projects in Qatar and the wider region.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency, Al Kuwari said the 11th Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors in Doha set a record for attendance, bringing together more than 1,000 participants, including over 48 ministers from around the world, mainly from finance and economyministries.
He said Qatar’s hosting of the meeting reflects the country’s standing on the international stage and the confidence it enjoys globally. Qatar has been a founding member of AIIB since 2015 and remains a key supporter of the Bank,he added.
Al Kuwari noted that AIIB finances development projects, climate initiatives and other infrastructure projects worldwide, operating as a multilateral financial institution with members spanning Europe, Africa, Latin America and North America.
He said the high-level participation of ministers, officials and decision-makers further reflects Qatar’s international standing and the confidence placed in its ability to host major global events.
Al Kuwari added that hosting major economic, financial and sporting events reinforces Qatar’s position as an international destination for major forums and strengthens its presence on the global events map.
Al Kuwari also highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between AIIB and countries in the Gulf and wider region, particularly in financing infrastructure that strengthens regional connectivity, supports economic integration and contributes to sustainable development.
