Brookfield Opens Doha Office; Expands Qatar Investment Activities

Global investment firm Brookfield has opened a new office in Doha focused on its global credit investment platform, including Oaktree, as it expands its presence in Qatar and the wider Gulf region.

The new office builds on Brookfield’s existing investments and partnerships in Qatar, including a planned $20 billion joint venture with Qai, Qatar’s artificial intelligence company and a subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). The joint venture focuses on developing artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets.

Jad Ellawn, Managing Partner and Regional Head of the Middle East at Brookfield, said that Qatar had developed into an important market for global investment, supported by its institutional investors and investment opportunities.

Ellawn highlighted Brookfield’s existing partnerships with institutions such as QIA and mentioned that the opening of the Doha office was a step in the firm’s regional expansion. The office will allow Brookfield to work more closely with its partners and assess investment opportunities across Qatar.

The office reflects Brookfield’s approach to establishing a local presence in markets where it invests capital. The firm plans to work with its partners to identify opportunities across Qatar, supporting its continued investment activities in the country.

The new office will focus on Brookfield’s global credit investment activities, including those managed through Oaktree. Brookfield’s credit platform invests across different credit markets, while Oaktree specializes in alternative investments, including credit strategies.

According to the company, Brookfield manages approximately $20 billion in assets across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Its regional investments span private equity, real estate, credit, and infrastructure.

At the global level, Brookfield manages more than $1 trillion in assets on behalf of institutional and individual clients. Its investment activities cover infrastructure, energy, private equity, real estate, and credit, including businesses and assets that provide services across several sectors of the economy.

Brookfield’s local presence is expected to facilitate its engagement with Qatar’s investment community as the firm continues to assess opportunities across its credit and other investment platforms.
