France moved closer to banning advertising for ultra-fast fashion platforms such as Shein, Temu and AliExpress after the Senate approved a bill on Monday aimed at reducing the environmental impact of low-cost, high-volume clothing retailers.
The law provides for an advertising ban from the start of next year. Influencers will also no longer be allowed to promote such platforms, or face penalties.
While the original plan was to target the broader fast fashion sector, the measures are now focused specifically on “ultra-express platforms,” as the draft law describes them. These are companies that flood the market with large volumes of extremely low-cost products, reducing incentives for consumers to repair or reuse items. (Agencies)
