ICBF Ties Up With TGS Qatar To Host Heat Stress Awareness Programme

The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), an apex body functioning under the aegis of the Embassy of India, organised a heat stress awareness programme in association with Telangana Gulf Samithi (TGS) Qatar at the ICBF Kanjani Hall on 24 July 2026.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from several blue-collar workers representing various labor camps across Doha, reaffirming ICBF’s steadfast commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of the Indian community, particularly during the challenging summer season.

Shri Chandan Kumar Shrivastava, Attaché at the Embassy of India, attended the event as the chief guest. In his address, he commended the ICBF leadership for its unwavering dedication to community service and assured the embassy’s continued support for ICBF’s welfare initiatives.

Stressing that heat stress awareness is the need of the hour, he advised workers to remain health-conscious during the hot summer months, stay adequately hydrated, and take all necessary precautions while at work. He reminded them that their families and loved ones depend on their well-being and eagerly await their safe return.

In his presidential address, ICBF President Shanavas Bava expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of India for its continuous support in addressing the grievances and welfare needs of the Indian community, including consular services. He also thanked Telangana Gulf Samithi (TGS) Qatar for partnering with ICBF in organising the awareness programme.

The technical awareness session was delivered by Bimal Subedi, Coordinator – Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI). He emphasised the importance of proper hydration and maintaining good health practices both at workplaces and in labor accommodations. He explained that heat stress occurs when the body cannot cool itself effectively due to high temperatures or strenuous physical activity.He advised workers to drink plenty of water, take regular breaks in shaded or cool areas, wear light clothing, and recognize early warning signs such as dizziness, excessive sweating, fatigue, and dehydration.

TGS President Madhukar Maidam also addressed the gathering and thanked ICBF for the opportunity to co-host the event. Felicitations were offered by Advisory Council Chairman KS Prasad and ICBF Head of Labour Shankar Goud.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by General Secretary Deepak Shetty, while Secretary Jafar Thayyil proposed the vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by Managing Committee members Irfan Ansari, Mani Bharathi, Mini Siby, Amarvir Singh and Neelambari Sushant.
