The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Qatar, in collaboration with Protiviti, recently hosted a seminar “Internal Auditors’ Role in Data Governance and ESG (environmental, social and governance)”, attracting more than 110 internal audit professionals from across sectors in Qatar.
The seminar - jointly hosted by IIA Qatar board members Omair Arfeen and Rashid al-Rashidi, along with Andrew North, Country Managing Director at Protiviti - featured two engaging sessions.
In the first session, Haydar Mohammed, Enterprise IT and Data Strategy Leader, delivered a presentation on the importance of data management and governance, emphasising its critical role in risk management and compliance. He also shed light on the Qatar National Data Standards, underscoring its significance in shaping a robust national data framework.
The second session was led by Kapil Suresan, ESG Transformation Leader, who elaborated on the core concepts and rising importance of ESG principles in today’s dynamic business environment. He also discussed the evolving role of internal auditors in supporting and ensuring sustainable business practices aligned with global ESG expectations.
The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers and delve deeper into the practical implications of internal audit's involvement in data governance and ESG.
