Qatar’s LNG Production Is Set to Double by 2030

Qatar is strengthening its position in the global LNG export market with expansion plans and new vessel charters.

After losing its title as the world's largest LNG exporter to the United States last year, Qatar aims to increase its export capacity by 85% by 2030.

In response to uncertainties about U.S. LNG supply, Qatar is moving forward with capacity expansion plans and securing new vessel charters.

QatarEnergy recently signed long-term agreements with international shipowners to operate 19 new conventional-size LNG vessels, complementing earlier deals with Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) to operate 25 vessels.

With 104 ships now under long-term charter agreements, Qatar is set to utilize its extensive gas reserves for export. QatarEnergy's President and CEO, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, described these deals as part of the largest shipbuilding and leasing program in the industry's history.

The expansion program will support Qatar's growing LNG production capacity from the North Field in Qatar and Golden Pass in the U.S. Qatar is also advancing its LNG capacity expansion plans, including the North Field West project, following significant gas discoveries.

Qatar's efforts underscore its commitment to meeting global energy demands and maintaining its position in the LNG sector.
