Mwani Qatar recorded strong year-on-year growth in its operational performance during February, reflecting higher activity levels across the country’s ports driven by increased handling indices and vessel traffic. The positive results highlight the continued efficiency of port operations and their growing role in supporting trade flows and supply chains serving Qatar.
In a post on X on Monday, Mwani Qatar said the number of Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) handled during the month reached 118,462 containers, marking a 5 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025. The rise in container throughput reflects steady demand for containerised cargo and improved terminal productivity, supported by smoother vessel scheduling and more efficient yard and gate operations.
General cargo handling also posted growth, with volumes reaching 111,967 tonnes in February, up 2 percent year-on-year. The increase points to continued activity across industrial and commercial sectors, with ports facilitating the movement of construction materials, project cargo and other non-containerised shipments that are essential to domestic supply chains and ongoing development projects.
Port activity was further underscored by an increase in vessel calls, with 237 vessels received during the month, representing a 4 percent rise compared with February last year. The growth in maritime traffic reflects improved berth utilisation and operational readiness at the ports, as well as sustained confidence among shipping lines in the efficiency and reliability of local port services.
Vehicle and equipment handling recorded the strongest growth during the period, reaching 11,631 units, an increase of 34 percent compared with the same month last year. The surge in this category signals robust demand for automobiles, heavy machinery and specialised equipment, supporting infrastructure development, logistics operations and commercial activity across the country.
The ports also handled 115,126 tonnes of bulk cargo and processed 39,613 head of livestock during February, underscoring their critical role in maintaining the steady flow of essential commodities and supporting food security. The continued movement of bulk goods and livestock highlights the capacity of port facilities to manage diverse cargo streams while maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards.
