Where is foreign capital flowing in Qatar? The answer is becoming increasingly clear.
According to the latest data from National Planning Council, more than 90% of Qatar’s inward foreign
direct investment (FDI) positions are concentrated in five key economic activities.
Mining and quarrying lead the way at 44.9%, followed by financial and insurance activities at 28.4%,
manufacturing at 13.9%, professional, scientific and technical activities at 4.1%, and information and
communication at 3.0%.
This distribution reflects where international investors currently see long-term opportunities and
economic strength within Qatar. It also highlights the growing role of value-added sectors alongside
traditional core industries.
The continued concentration of FDI in mining, financial services, and manufacturing underscores how
these sectors remain central to attracting foreign capital and supporting economic activity. At the same
time, the presence of professional services and information sectors points to ongoing progress toward
economic diversification.
This matters for investors because FDI trends can provide a broader view of market confidence beyond
daily stock movements. Understanding which sectors attract the most foreign capital helps investors
identify where economic momentum, policy support, and business activity may be strongest.
The broader trend also aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which focuses on economic
development, competitiveness, and diversification under a stable and business-friendly environment.
