Qatar Chamber, German Delegation Explore Cooperation in Industrial Sector

Qatar Chamber, in cooperation with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Office in Qatar (AHK), hosted yesterday a workshop with a German delegation representing the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA), led by Ragnar Strauch.

The Qatari side was chaired by Qatar Chamber board member Abdulrahman al-Ansari, who is also chairman of its Industry Committee.

The meeting was also attended by AHK CEO Dr Martin Henkelmann, along with representatives from 12 leading German industrial companies operating in technology solutions in the fields of energy, industry, automation, and petrochemicals.

Al-Ansari lauded the strong relations between Qatar and Germany, stressing the remarkable development in bilateral cooperation over the past years, particularly in investment, trade exchange, industrial development, and technology transfer.

He described Germany as one of Qatar’s key trading partners, with the bilateral trade volume exceeding QR6bn last year, compared to QR7.1bn in 2023. He added that Qatar is among the largest investors in Germany, with investments exceeding €25bn across sectors, such as automotive, telecommunications, financial services, hospitality, and real estate.

Al-Ansari also emphasised the promising prospects for cooperation between Qatari and German businesses in various fields, including energy and renewable resources, sustainable infrastructure, logistics services, education, smart technology, and the pharmaceutical industries.

He reaffirmed Qatar Chamber’s commitment to strengthening partnerships between the two business communities and to benefiting from German expertise through joint ventures and industrial alliances, especially in value-added sectors such as manufacturing, renewable energy, advanced technology, and technical education.

Strauch said the VDMA comprises 3,600 German industrial and engineering companies specialised in the manufacture of machines, pumps, valves and industrial devices across 35 sectors. He noted that 160 German companies are keen to invest in Qatar in various fields, most notably energy, industry, and petrochemicals.

Henkelmann highlighted the continuous visits of German business delegations to Qatar through Qatar Chamber, noting that members of the delegation are eager to cooperate with Qatari firms and transfer their expertise to the Qatari market.
