Qatar Chamber Seeks Stronger Qatar-Malaysia Business Ties

Qatar Chamber has participated in the Global Halal Summit (GHaS) 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, highlighting opportunities to strengthen trade and investment cooperation between Qatar and Malaysia and enhance private-sector partnerships between the two countries.

The summit was opened by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi.

The Qatar Chamber delegation was headed by Dr. Mohamed bin Jawhar Al-Mohammed, Board Member and Chairman of the Qatari side of the Qatar-Malaysia Joint Business Council, in the presence of Qatar’s Ambassador to Malaysia HE Salah bin MohamedAl Sorour.

On the sidelines of the summit, Al Mohammed held a meeting with Mohamed Razeek Hussain, chairman of the Malaysian side of the Qatar-Malaysia Joint Business Council, to discuss ways to further develop economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

The meeting focused on strengthening the role of the joint business council as a platform for enhancing cooperation between the Qatari and Malaysian business communities. The two sides discussed the importance of holding regular meetings and following up on areas of mutual interest to translate business opportunities into concrete partnerships.

They also explored measures to promote bilateral trade and investment, facilitate business partnerships and joint ventures, and enhance the exchange of information on investment opportunities, regulations and promising economic sectors in both markets.

Al Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar Chamber’s commitment to strengthening the role of the Joint Business Council in supporting private-sector cooperation and creating new opportunities for companies from both countries.

He stressed the importance of intensifying reciprocal business visits and organising more business meetings and networking opportunities to help Qatari and Malaysian companies identify areas of common interest and establish new trade and investment partnerships.

The Qatar Chamber official also held a meeting with S Jay Shankar, deputy CEO of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), during which the two sides discussed ways to enhance trade and investment cooperation and strengthen engagement between the private sectors of Qatar and Malaysia.

The discussions also focused on exploring new opportunities for Qatari and Malaysian companies and encouraging greater interaction between businesses in the two countries.

In addition, Al Mohammed met with a number of Malaysian business leaders, particularly representatives of the food industry. He highlighted the investment opportunities available in Qatar and the incentives offered to foreign investors, while inviting Malaysian companies to explore investment opportunities in the Qatari market.

He noted that Qatar is well positioned to develop into a regional hub for the food industry, supported by its strategic location, infrastructure and investment environment.

The meetings held during the Global Halal Summit underscored the potential for expanding Qatar-Malaysia economic relations beyond traditional trade and into investment, food industries, joint ventures and other promising sectors.

Qatar Chamber’s participation also provided an opportunity to strengthen direct links between the private sectors of the two countries and promote greater awareness of investment opportunities available in Qatar and Malaysia.
