Qatar, China Explore Deeper Trade, Investment Ties

Minister of State for Foreign Trade HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed participated as part of the delegation accompanying Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani during his visit to the Chinese capital, Beijing, from 7 to 8 September 2026.

The visit comes within the framework of further developing the longstanding bilateral relations between Qatar and China, and expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. China is Qatar’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $23.07 billion in 2025, while the number of Chinese companies operating in Qatar reached 536.

On the sidelines of the visit, Minister of State for Foreign Trade held a series of bilateral meetings including with Li Chenggang, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, and Lin Honghong, Vice Chairperson of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

He also met with Chen Liang, Chairman of China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC), and Dr Victor K Fung, Chairman of Fung Investments, in addition to a number of chairpersons and representatives of leading Chinese companies operating in the fields of technology, logistics, industry and trade.

The meetings discussed opportunities to expand economic, trade and investment cooperation across several priority sectors, particularly advanced industries and supply chains. 

They also reviewed the advantages offered by the business and investment environment in Qatar, and discussed ways to strengthen engagement between the business communities of both countries and encourage Qatari and Chinese companies to benefit from available investment opportunities, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two countries.
