Qatar Diamond Exchange Seeks to Strengthen Links with African Diamond Producers

Doha, November 03 (QNA) - The Qatar Diamond Exchange is seeking to position itself as a trusted gateway connecting diamond-producing countries with international markets, capitalizing on Qatar's strategic location, advanced infrastructure and business-friendly environment.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Diamond Exchange, said the exchange was committed to developing an integrated ecosystem that promotes responsible trading practices, generates long-term economic value and creates opportunities for companies and countries across the diamond value chain.

He also highlighted promising opportunities to expand cooperation with African countries, noting the continent's central role in the global diamond industry.

His remarks came during a visit to the exchange's headquarters in Ras Bufontas Free Zone by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and National Security of the Kingdom of Lesotho Samuel Matekane, accompanied by several African ambassadors and diplomats accredited to Qatar.

HE Democratic Republic of the Congo Ambassador to Qatar Valerie Lusamba Kabeya welcomed the prospects for cooperation with the exchange, stressing the importance of strengthening links between African diamond-producing countries and international markets.

She noted that Africa holds some of the world's largest diamond reserves and said greater efforts were needed to ensure that the economic benefits of these resources translated into wider gains for producing countries.

Kabeya described the diamond industry as an important contributor to African economies and a source of opportunities for future generations.

She added that the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as one of the world's major diamond producers, was keen to develop partnerships that support the industry's long-term growth and create further opportunities for African businesses.

The visit forms part of the Qatar Diamond Exchange's efforts to strengthen international relations and explore new opportunities in the global diamond trade.

It also reflects the exchange's ambition to connect producing countries with manufacturers, customers and international markets, while deepening engagement with Africa, home to several of the world's leading diamond-producing nations. (QNA)
