Qatar Seeks Broader Economic Ties With US

Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs HE Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Sayed, participated in the opening session of the Concordia Washington, DC Forum, organized by Concordia in partnership with the Embassy of Qatar in the United States of America. The forum was held in Washington, DC, on September 16, 2026, with the participation of senior officials, business leaders, and experts.

During a panel discussion titled “Trade Winds: Expanding the Economic Corridor,” He addressed the ongoing transformation of global supply chains and trade routes, as well as the State of Qatar’s role in strengthening economic connectivity between the United States, the Gulf region, and global markets.

He also discussed opportunities to expand the economic partnership between the State of Qatar and the United States across trade, investment, energy, technology, and infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of moving beyond trade exchange towards establishing partnerships and joint ventures in strategic sectors.

He further highlighted the importance of strengthening supply-chain resilience by diversifying suppliers, markets, and trade routes, thereby contributing to a more interconnected and resilient economic partnership between the Qatar and US.

On the sidelines of the visit, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs held a series of bilateral meetings with Jacob Helberg, US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment; Jeffrey Kessler, US Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security; Mark Mitchell, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Middle East and Africa at the International Trade Administration, US Department of Commerce; and the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, in addition to several chief executive officers of major US companies. The meetings explored ways to strengthen trade and investment relations between the State of Qatar and the United States of America and identify opportunities to expand cooperation and joint ventures in priority sectors. 

They also addressed ways to enhance engagement between the two countries’ business communities and support public-private partnerships.
