Telecom Sector Tops QSE by Average Return on Assets

What if the best-performing sector isn't the one you expected?

Return on Assets (ROA) is one of the simplest ways to understand how efficiently a company turns its assets into profit.

Looking across Qatar's listed sectors, telecom stands out with the highest average ROA at 8.4%, ahead of Consumer Goods (6.1%), Insurance (5.6%), and Industrials (5.4%).

Further down the list, Transportations records an average ROA of 4.1%, while Real Estate and Banks & Financial Services come in at 1.8% and 1.3%, respectively.

While revenue and earnings often grab the headlines, ROA offers a different perspective. It focuses on how effectively companies use the resources they already own to generate returns. Comparing sectors through this lens can help investors understand where operational efficiency is strongest.

It's worth noting that this analysis is based on the average ROA of companies with positive ROAs within each sector (last twelve months). The figures are intended to provide a sector-level comparison of profitable companies rather than a measure of the entire sector.

No single metric should drive an investment decision, but ROA is a useful starting point when assessing business quality and capital efficiency. Combined with other financial indicators, it can provide a more complete picture of how companies are performing over time.
