Toyota Global Sales Drop 7.4% in May

Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor reported on Monday that global production and sales fell in May.

The decline was mainly due to weak performance outside of Japan, figures showed. Sales and production were lower for the first five months of fiscal 2026. In May, total worldwide sales were 885,207 units, 7.4% lower than last year. Toyota brand sales, including the Lexus luxury marque, came in at 834,279 units in May, down 7.2% from last year.

Total Toyota worldwide production in May declined 5.8% year-over-year to 857,765 units, with a 0.7% drop in Japan, and 8.4% decline outside Japan. Toyota brand worldwide production was 765,470 units, down 5.5% as a 3.7% rise in Japan was more than offset by 9.4% drop in production outside Japan.
